Dude, we have no idea what she’s like at home. We only see the side she shows in here and seriously? I have no respect for her. She’s an attention seeking (I won’t use the usual word out of respect for the site) ignorant, nay stupid woman that continuously posts crap threads disguised as asking for advice and are really narcissistic attempts to toot her own bizarre and dangerously destructive whore-n. Oops I said it after all.

And then she backtracks faster than a crack ho. When people call her on her crap, she tries to pretend she meant something totally different or benign like we’re too stupid to see right through it. Someone told the girl she was smart and she believed it. They lied.

I’m standing right behind Cav on this one. I’m pretty sure there’s a line.

I’d be careful if I were you. She informed us all years ago that you don’t exist when you’re not in the same room.

Just so you know. I’ve had three really large glasses of hard cider and something else and I’m a little intoxication/fucked up. I’m amazed I can type this up in the dark. And even still I know you don’t hyphenate ad-hominem. They deserve each other.

What can I do while sitting there to keep myself amused while the bigwigs drone, *without* getting kicked out of the ceremony and/or arrested?

My only idea so far is my Nintendo DS with the sound turned off.

Way to set an example for the students around you. Just be sure not to cackle out loud or holler woot! when you beat a level. :shake:

You never cease to amaze me with your inability to act like a member of the human race. It ain’t all about you, ya know. Nobody enjoys those ceremonies (okay, there may be one or two people that thrive on pomp and circumstance) but they attend as a show of RESPECT for the accomplishments of the students. They can’t all have fun ticker-tape parades for graduating, so they get commencement ceremonies. Suck it up and sit quietly just to prove you can.

I’m betting you can’t.

A dozen or so years ago I got my first home computer. After figuring out AOL was for wussies and Yahoo was a meat market I went on to search for one of my favorite authors. Back then she had a huge website with her own forums (Kitchen Table) and chat room (KT Live). I didn’t know crap about forums so I tended to hang out in the chat room more. There were people who spent a lot of time in there with me that I still consider my closest friends. Anyway, one morning she came in. Anne McCaffrey! Seriously! I never gushed over anyone and I didn’t start then, but wow. Turns out, she’d show up around the same time every day and spend about an hour chatting with her people.

I got to know the woman behind the name and I really liked her! She’s witty and bawdy, tolerant of the newbs but she doesn’t suffer fanatics well. We’d all chat about food and chocolate, living in Ireland and horses, food and writing, sex and the lack thereof, family, food, etc. The question of what she missed about the US led to many things though mainly certain foods. I mentioned one day that I was to be the Cookie Mom for my daughter’s Girl Scout troop and we spent that entire morning discussing in depth the merits of the various cookie choices available that year.

A couple of weeks later after the cookie rush I remembered Anne’s birthday and decided to send her a case of the variety of what I had left. I tracked down her shipping address through a friend so she’d be surprised. Shortly thereafter I received a very nice thank you note . . . and on went life.

Cut to my first Dragon*Con (’03 if I remember correctly). My first chance to actually meet some of the people I’d been chatting online with and to meet Anne. There were panels where we didn’t get too close but then there was a special party in the weyrfest room for her Kitchen Table gang. She wheeled in on her little electric cart and made a speech and then we lined up for autographs and one-on-one conversation. Some fanatics were singing Harper songs in the corner and the atmosphere was pretty loud and festive. When it was my turn Anne took one look at the name on my badge (Debbiedamoodymom) and gripped my hand and shushed everyone around so she could tell a story.

Apparently her sister-in-law(?) had been living with her and was terminally ill and had stopped eating. For days she refused to eat anything until my box of Girl Scout cookies arrived. She and Anne shared the cookies and the SIL had a chance to really enjoy the old-fashioned treat before she died. By the time Anne was done with her story, everyone in the room had tears in their eyes, even curmudgeony old me. Plus I had no feeling left in my hand. But how do you respond to that? I hugged her gently and silently berated myself for not bringing my camera.

After that trip – where I think she fell and injured herself, she didn’t come into the chat room as often or at the usual time. The following year she came back to D*C and we talked again. Over the years age and some crap between one of her sons and a group of my friends flared up and the KT and KTL were given over to the fans. It wasn’t the same without her. The fanatics have pretty much taken over the asylum and except for a select few, many of us who actually knew her have drifted away. . . to LiveJournal!

No matter what you think of her writing – and if you’ve only read the Pern stuff you really should seek out the Freedom series and the Talent and Hive books – the woman is a brilliant person. I really miss talking to her. I know she’s still writing and collaborating with others but the average person communication is gone. If I ever get to Wicklow County . . .

I don’t know what made me remember this today. I woke up thinking about it and had an uncontrollable urge to log in and make sure it wasn’t one of those premonition things odd people are always talking about. As far as I can tell, that was a stupid urge and she’s fine. Maybe it was the call last night from my son that he’d bought me two boxes of Thin Mints cuz he wuvs me. Who knows. I couldn’t stop thinking about it so here it is.

I’ll admit right here in front of my bestest friends, I have a mental brick wall when it comes to its/it’s. Yes, I worked for a dozen years in the technical publishing business and some of them dedicated to pleasing the tech writer from Hell, Harold. I always use your or you’re and their and there in the correct way and have seldom let a misspelling pass my enter button. I do remember receiving a lesson from cavaticat regarding her personal issue with alot, but then again that wasn’t a word (phrase?) used in technical writing a lot. It with an s always always always stops me cold. Can’t help it. I often rewrite the sentence rather than get it wrong or look it up. Maybe I should make myself a sticky note?

I may be a spellwight, but I can’t consider myself a Grammar Nazi anymore. And gee thanks el_mcgruffle for forcing me to go back to that awful place and read more of that stupid woman’s self-gloriousness and losing my lunch. I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog too.

Ginnie did pass her third attempt at the test so she now has her official instructional permit.

You know, as little as I like John and as much as I like Aranel, they only seem to post at AMCF when the shit hits the fan for one reason or another. John most certainly is an instigator. Which is all well and good, go for it, but if you want some credibility maybe posting at other times would make their current arguments hold more water. I understand their involvement as it relates to PF, but like I say, maybe being more involved in some aspect of the day-to-day conversations there might balance their attacks. Whatever.

(I don’t post at PF specifically because of John, but I do sometimes wander in to read stuff.)

I’m burning my first compilation CD for our trip. I’m so confused.

And because my Mozaki is acting funky, my current score is: 42,460,300

LazyArwyn is at it again. http://www.annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8177 – don’t really bother if you’re not interested. The gist is, “What if your child turned against your beliefs?” and she makes this comment:

But if one of my children I would be terribly disappointed in my child, and wonder where I went wrong in teaching them reason and logic. And wonder what kind of brainwashing they have been through. And worry for them.

But what would scare (and anger) me is if they got to the point that they actively attacked ME, not my beliefs and choices. Then the gloves would come off. I would do whatever it took, up to and including kidnapping and “de-programming” and if that didn’twork, I would probably disown the child.

She a little phobic about religion, maybe? She has Fundamentalist, Mormon and Catholic in her background. Brainwashing? Deprogramming? I’d be more worried about the Davidian types.

Damn, what a selfish bitch she is. Disown your child because they choose to be their own person?

Arrrggggg. Fucking bad parents!

So I did bitch at her. Pointed out her lousy parenting choices yet again.

I feel so sorry for her children.

This guy is 39 years old, according to his profile, and a professional in the oil industry. Perchance he’s the reason for the recent UK fires? No?

Anyhow, I think he’s got serious illiteracy issues so I’m not bitching over there. But DAMN!

The sad part is, this is exactly how my own husband writes. My husband is what you’d call a functioning illiterate. He can read and comprehend fairly well, but to write something out? Forget it.
